These Anglo-Indian Military chests were originally used by officers of the British Indian Army to carry their kit and personal possessions whilst on tour. This example dates from the 19th century and has been painted blue and constructed from teak with brass corners and handles.
The top opens to reveal a compartmentalised shelf with a removable section above a large interior space. Below the main storage area are two sliding drawers.
As these chests had to withstand a lot of punishment in transit, they were exceptionally well made.
